As One Of Our Principal Compliance Officers, You Will:

  • Lead staff in administering legislation, strategies, policy, and procedures to a high standard of excellence and develop, implement, report on and review evidence-based compliance strategies and plans for the program
  • Provide high level strategic and legislative advice to all levels of management in relation to compliance and regulatory activities associated with the program e.g., identify emerging risks and mitigation strategies
  • Plan and undertake high-level compliance investigations and projects including overseeing and undertaking tasks as a designated officer appointed to exercise statutory powers under legislation
  • Establish and maintain an effective relationship with Biosecurity Queensland Compliance Services team (previously known as the Investigations Unit) to ensure a seamless response to serious non-compliance and to support staff understanding of the legislation and adherence to compliance and investigations procedures and standards
  • Manage, develop, and mentor compliance coordinators/team leaders as managers of professional compliance staff. Undertake all relevant performance and development and HR tasks required as a manager of managers and staff
  • Represent Biosecurity Queensland in stakeholder forums and meetings, consistently promoting the importance of ongoing improvements in biosecurity compliance to biosecurity system integrity to ensure ongoing sustainability and economic viability
  • Develop/support and maintain relationships with key stakeholders relevant to your program at local, state, and national levels (e.g., where work is conducted under Cost Share Programs)
  • Excellent communication and interviewing skills including knowledge and skill in using one or more interviewing techniques
  • Excellent writing skills, as demonstrated, for instance in the ability to write up statements of fact addressing complex issues, to develop appropriate compliance findings and recommendations (including recommendations to the Biosecurity Queensland Compliance Services team); to draft effective responses to Ministerial queries and requests for advice from Senior managers
  • Strong knowledge of effective mentoring techniques to support subordinate team leaders' skill in managing and mentoring their staff
