The Shareholder Entities and Community Housing Group

The Shareholder Entities and Community Housing Group oversees a range of commercial government business enterprises (GBEs) across the public non-financial corporations (PNFC) sector and supports the Office of the Housing Registrar to provide regulatory oversight of the community housing sector.

The Shareholder Advice team provides advisory and governance oversight services to Government relating to government business enterprises (GBEs) that operate in a predominantly commercial context. The responsibilities of the team include the preparation of budget financial statements for the PNFC sector.

About the role

The Director, Shareholder Advice is a key leadership position responsible for providing strategic oversight and guidance in financial monitoring, planning and reporting. The purpose of this role is to lead the team which provides strategic and financial advice to the Government, by engaging with the GBEs, analysing their operations and their environment, and consulting with stakeholders. The Director also leads the team to provide governance oversight and financial performance monitoring to maximise shareholder outcomes.

About you

  • Leads effectively: proven ability to collaborate, communicate priorities, refocus when required and provide a clear, strategic direction to staff with linkages to the Departments objectives. Ability to lead, mentor and provide guidance to teams and individuals.

  • Delivers Solutions: proven ability to review and analyse complex problems involving the State's shareholder interests in commercial businesses. Ability to develop sound and innovative policy and commercial advice, solve problems and effectively communicate solutions.

  • Engages for results: proven ability to open doors for the Department, through engaging multiple and diverse stakeholdersat a senior level (CEO, CFO) implementing effective communication strategies, working as a trusted advisor.

  • Technical expertise: demonstrates commercial acumen and capability to provide authoritative governance and commercial advice on complex issues impacting government businesses. Proven ability to undertake financial and performance monitoring of commercial businesses. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail.

  • Working in Government: ability to engage effectively with public sector stakeholders and executives of commercial government businesses.

Experience and qualifications

  • Experience in managing commercial issues

  • Extensive leadership expertise

  • Strategic thinking and change management experience

  • Public policy development

A tertiary qualification in business, finance, property or law is preferred
