Tauondi Aboriginal College is an Aboriginal Community Controlled registered training organisation governed by an elected Aboriginal Board. For over 50 years, we've delivered accredited and non-accredited training tailored for Aboriginal people in a culturally safe, strengths-based environment.
Position OverviewTauondi Aboriginal College is seeking a dedicated Catering and Canteen Officer to support the effective operation of our canteen and catering services. This role involves preparing and delivering high-quality meals and refreshments for students, staff, and community stakeholders, while also showcasing Aboriginal culture through the inclusion of bush tucker and native ingredients. Working as part of a supportive team, you will contribute to creating a welcoming, culturally safe environment that promotes wellbeing and community connection.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and serve meals, snacks, and beverages for daily canteen operations and catering orders.
- Incorporate native ingredients into menus to reflect and celebrate Aboriginal culture.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety compliance.
- Assist with stock management, ordering, and monitoring to ensure efficiency and minimise waste.
- Provide friendly, professional customer service to students, staff, and external clients.
- Support colleagues in catering for community events and larger functions.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-focused work environment.
- Certificate or formal training in hospitality, cookery, or catering services (essential).
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate, or willingness to obtain (essential).
- DHS Working With Children Check and Responding to Abuse and Neglect Certificate, or willingness to obtain (essential).
- Current driver's licence (essential).
- Experience in a kitchen, canteen, or food service environment.
- Customer service experience in food or retail settings.
- Awareness of Aboriginal culture and interest in incorporating bush tucker into food services.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and deliver excellent customer service.
Some work outside standard hours and the delivery of off-campus training will be required. Salary is negotiable according to qualifications and experiences. The position is for an initial contract for 12 months – demand driven extension will be available.
