Elphinstone Stevens Pty Ltd is a mid-sized CPA public accounting firm based in modern offices in Burnie on Tasmania's North West Coast. We work with a diverse portfolio of small to mid-sized family businesses, providing high-quality accounting, taxation, and advisory services.
As a proactive firm, we focus on enhancing our clients' financial knowledge while using leading accounting software including Xero, MYOB, Access HandiSoft, and BGL. Our services also extend to SMSF compliance, payroll, and business advisory.
About the RoleWe are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our dynamic and close-knit team. This is a client-facing role that combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities and offers a real opportunity for career progression.
You will:
- Prepare financial statements, tax returns, and BAS for a variety of clients
- Review work prepared by junior staff and provide constructive feedback
- Mentor and support less experienced team members
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients and help strengthen long-term relationships
- Be involved in ongoing training and development, both for yourself and your team
The ideal candidate will be:
- A self-motivated, enthusiastic professional with at least 5 years of Australian public practice experience
- Degree-qualified in Accounting or similar (CPA/CA or working towards is highly regarded)
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and common accounting software (experience with Xero, MYOB, or BGL is advantageous)
- An excellent communicator – both written and verbal
- Capable of working independently, managing deadlines, and collaborating within a team
- Passionate about helping clients grow and improve their financial literacy
- You are adaptable and open to change, with a proactive mindset toward embracing new technologies. You're able to support and encourage ongoing transitions—such as software upgrades and the integration of AI—to help drive efficiency and continuous improvement across the firm
- Work in a tight-knit team with direct access to the firm's Director and senior CPAs
