Do you love books but want a change from the retail floor?

At Peter Pal, we're looking for a Library Collection Buyer (internally known as a Selector) to join our dynamic team. This is the perfect role for someone with strong book knowledge and retail experience who's ready to transition into an office environment, while still staying close to the world of publishing and readers.

About the Role

As a Selector, you'll be at the heart of shaping the collections of Australia & New Zealand public libraries. Using your keen eye for trends and passion for books, you'll select, procure, and manage upcoming titles that match our customers' needs.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain successful library collections tailored to customer profiles.
  • Procure new releases and upcoming titles (3–4 months ahead of publication).
  • Stay on top of media, publishing news, and literary awards to anticipate trends.
  • Manage budgets, orders, and customer profiles with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work closely with publishers, suppliers, and the Account Management team to provide excellent service and advice.
  • Contribute to Peter Pal's Top Shelf Newsletter, sharing insights with colleagues and clients.
  • Attend publishing roadshows and industry events to keep your knowledge sharp.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in the book industry (bookshop, publishing, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of current titles, bestsellers, and upcoming releases.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and able to meet ordering deadlines.
  • A team player who can also work independently and manage time effectively.
