Swan Canning Waterways Branch plays a pivotal role in the management and protection of the Swan Canning Riverpark, as guided by the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006 and the Swan Canning River Protection Strategy. The Branch is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Swan Canning Riverpark and the handling of development proposals affecting the Riverpark.

We are currently seeking a Project Officer, River Journeys Program to join our team.

Under general direction, this position leads the delivery of the River Journeys Interpretation Node program (River Journeys program), including strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and the design and construction of interpretive infrastructure across the Swan Canning Riverpark. The role manages program budgets, reporting, and cultural engagement processes, ensuring respectful collaboration with the Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation Cultural Advice Committee. It also supports the Riverbank Program through administration of annual funding processes and project management of foreshore restoration initiatives in partnership with land managers. The position requires strong coordination, communication, and documentation skills to support strategic outcomes aligned with the Swan Canning River Protection Strategy.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following three (3) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management, with an understanding of or experience in natural resource management, parks management and/or tourism. Preference for someone with experience and knowledge in the environmental, social and cultural values of natural areas and the ability to apply this knowledge strategically in the planning and delivery of signage and trail projects that foster community understanding and engagement.
  • Evidence of well-developed interpersonal and oral communication skills, with demonstrated experience and competence consulting and negotiating with a wide range of audiences with differing requirements including local governments, consultants, contractors, Aboriginal groups and peak/regulatory bodies.
  • Well-developed written communication skills, including stakeholder engagement correspondence, project plans, publications, report writing, media articles, research, analysis and the ability to use computer software (including word processing, spreadsheets and data base management) for report writing and correspondence.
