About the Role

Hunter Valley Grammar School seeks to appoint a full-time permanent ICT Systems Engineer to join our ICT team.

The primary focus of the ICT Systems Engineer is to provide quality customer service and technical support to students and staff in Hunter Valley Grammar School (HVGS). The role supports all staff in the efficient and effective use of ICT systems, including the provision of high-quality professional learning

Work Pattern

This position requires you to work 38 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 48 weeks per year.

Key Duties

Overview – the ICT Systems Engineer will:

  • Deliver consistently high-quality customer service, ensuring responsiveness, professionalism, and a user-focused approach in all interactions
  • Apply best practice IT Service Management approaches to guide service delivery, incident resolution, and continuous improvement
  • Always model exemplary cyber security practice, maintaining vigilance and compliance with school protocols and regulatory standards
  • Be an escalation point and overflow for the IT support requests
  • Support staff across the school to understand, implement and embed ICT systems in their day-to-day workflow
  • Manage the administration of Microsoft platforms such as Entra, Intune and Purview
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery planning of key systems and data
  • Support the Director of ICT in projects and initiatives that help deliver against the School's ICT strategy

Specific responsibilities - the ICT Systems Engineer will:

  • Manage and maintain the Microsoft ecosystem at the School, including Windows servers, Active Directory, Entra, Purview and Intune.
  • Act as an escalation point in the investigation, resolution and/or further escalation of ICT service requests, incidents and problems.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to ICT team members to assist in capability building through knowledge sharing, skill development, and collaborative problem-solving
  • Manage the timely communication and delivery of outcomes for ICT service requests, incidents and problems.
  • Monitor and maintain backup solutions for on-premises and cloud-based systems and information.
  • Provide technical support and advice to staff and students on ICT issues, to enable them to best perform their roles.
  • Contribute to ongoing ICT software and hardware asset management.
  • Monitor, report, and manage risks and opportunities identified during day-to-day operations.
  • Proactively identify and action change requests to improve services and systems available to the School community (staff, students, and parents), in consultation with the Director of ICT.
  • Evaluate and improve ICT processes in consultation with the Director of ICT.
  • Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of the School's network, Wi-Fi and firewall.
  • Provide support for additional HVGS ICT-related services including but not limited to Telephony/AV/Security systems.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies in managing ICT infrastructure through the use of scripting or other automation capabilities.
  • Ensure all ICT requests and issues are logged and tracked, including maintaining detailed notes and communications through the ICT Service Management Portal.
  • Ensure ICT workspaces are presentable to visitors.
  • Develop, update, and maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all assets, platforms, processes, and services in collaboration with ICT team members.
  • Liaise with the Director of ICT to improve ICT processes and Knowledge Base documentation for the school community.
  • Liaise with external service provider(s) as required.
About You
  • Minimum of a Certificate IV in IT or equivalent
  • Excellent, demonstrable customer service, problem-solving, time management, and organisational skills, along with the ability and desire to learn new skills quickly
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in the support and administration of ICT systems and networking infrastructure, preferably within a school setting or a combination of experience and relevant industry certification.
  • Experience with supporting a Microsoft 365 environment – Entra, Purview, Intune, Exchange Online, Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneNote.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell and Python for task automation.
  • Experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work outside standard school hours to assist with School events
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with both staff and students
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Manage one's own annual accreditation requirements including fee payment and maintenance of a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance

Desirable:

  • Industry Certifications (ITIL foundations, Microsoft, OSX Support Essentials or equivalent)
  • An understanding of Linux based systems and configurations.
  • Knowledge of Fortinet Firewalls, D-Link networking, Cambium Wi-Fi, Securly MDM.
