Job Responsibilities
Patient flow
- Monitor patient day sheet to prepare for patient list as planned and accommodate emergency patients whenever possible
- Coordinate with dentist to call patient, escort to and from surgery, settling patient in chair, preparing patient for dentist
- Liaise with reception regarding next appointments and/or payments.
Chair side assisting
- Correct instrument and material set up for each patient
- Assist Dentist with all aspects of clinical dentistry
- Correct procedure and technique in instrument transfer and mixing of materials
- D4W data entry under dentist instruction
- Develop radiographs.
Surgery Organisation
- Maintain infection control measures according to Infection Prevention manual
- Comply with surgery change over procedure for every patient
- General cleaning and maintenance of surgery
- Remove contaminated and non-contaminated waste
- Undertake routine maintenance of equipment and stock
- Assist other Dental Assistants, in SSU or other areas of the dental centre as required
Sterile supply unit
- Clean and prepare surgery hand pieces for sterilisation
- Process contaminated instruments, hand pieces and auxiliary items
- Prepare and maintain ultrasonic cleaner and steriliser
- Validate of sterilisation cycles
- Maintain stock levels
- Regular surgery rounds to collect contaminated instruments
- Report any fraudulent behaviour or activity
Job Requirements
Essential
- Dental knowledge and experience
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, tact and diplomacy
- Demonstrated initiative and common sense
- Basic computer skills
Desirable
- Experience in reception duties or interest to be cross trained in this area
- Qualifications in radiography, sterilising and/or first aid
- Certificate III in dental assisting
