Position Information

Canterbury Girls High School, situated in the Inner West, boasts a proud tradition of excellence across academics, sports and cultural pursuits. With a rich history spanning over 100 years, the school offers a comprehensive curriculum and a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, with particular emphasis on the performing arts, student leadership, and debating.

The school has a student population of around 720, supported by 60 teaching staff and 15 non-teaching staff. Our team comprises a balanced mix of early career and experienced educators and support personnel who collaborate effectively to deliver an inclusive curriculum tailored to meet the needs of all students.

Our student body is richly diverse, representing 49 nationalities, with 53% of students speaking a language other than English at home, and 4% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school community enjoys active engagement and support from parents and carers through a vibrant Parents and Citizens Association and we maintain strong partnerships with local schools to enrich learning experiences.

Canterbury Girls High School is dedicated to enhancing classroom effectiveness by promoting ongoing professional development. Our professional learning initiatives prioritise improving student literacy and numeracy through the implementation of explicit teaching strategies, underpinned by systematic data collection and analysis.

Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach English Years 7-12 and English Extensions 1 and 2.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within the English faculty to develop and implement quality teaching and learning programs.
  • Ability to use differentiation pedagogies and effective classroom management skills to create a classroom environment that is engaging, inclusive and fosters a culture of high expectations.
  • Highly developed communication and collaboration skills, fostering respectful and supportive relationships across the school community and actively contributing to whole-school programs and priorities.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
