Bring your deep credit risk expertise to a pivotal role that drives safe growth and modernisation across the credit lifecycle. This Senior Manager position offers the opportunity to shape strategy, simplify processes, and influence executive decision-making.

Partner with Product, Pricing, Distribution, Technology, Operations (Credit and Collections) to make credit processes simpler faster and more consistent, using internal and external data to optimise risk-reward outcomes and reduce friction for customers.

This role shapes the insight and narrative that informs the Financial Risk Committee, distilling complex data into clear, forward-looking analysis and recommendations that equip the Executive Manager – Credit Strategy and Policy to influence and drive outcomes at the forum.

Key responsibilities for this role includes:

  • Credit Strategy Design & Execution – Develop and implement acquisitions and portfolio strategies, score-based cut-offs and policy settings that balance growth, return and risk appetite, ensure strategies are implemented accurate and monitored end to end.

  • Forward-Looking Risk Insight – Connect origination, portfolio and collections and loss outcomes to build a single view of credit risk dynamics; credit analysis and narratives that anticipate emerging trends for the business including governance forums, in particular the Financial Risk Committee (FRC).

  • Collections & Delinquency Collaboration – Partner closely with Collections to monitor delinquency trends and strategy effectiveness; share portfolio insights and performance diagnostics to enhance hardship, recoveries, and loss-mitigation outcomes.

  • Financial Impact & Capital Awareness – Understand and quantify how credit strategies and portfolio performance flow through to P&L lines: expected loss provisions, charge-off's, recoveries, and capital charges; use this understanding to shape strategy design and ongoing portfolio management.

  • Credit Change Governance & Execution Discipline – Uplift credit change standards across the lifecycle of a change – from business requirements articulation through to function documentation, testing, communication, and post-implementation review. Treating FRC charter obligations as part of normal, well-managed practice and a value-add for the business.

  • Data, Automation and Innovation – Discover, explore, and leverage internal (across the CBA Group) and external data assets including but not limited to credit bureau, valuations/property collateral, internal transactional, account, product, customer level data assets to develop intelligence and insights; Apply data not only for automation but to inform portfolio understanding, profitability ,capital impacts and continuous credit strategy improvement.

  • Portfolio Monitoring & Diagnostics – Build and maintain diagnostic frameworks that move beyond "reporting history" to generate insight and foresight; provide the what, why, so what and now what of credit strategy and portfolio performance.

Experience & Capability Profile

  • Deep retail credit risk experience across multiple products and lifecycle stages (originations, portfolio, collections).

  • Proven ability to link acquisitions, portfolio, delinquency and loss outcomes into actionable strategy and governance insight.

  • Advanced analytical proficiency (SAS, SQL, Excel) and skill translating data into compelling governance narratives.

  • Demonstrated experience in credit-change governance, testing, documentation, and post-implementation review.

  • Strong understanding of provision, loss, and capital drivers and how strategy decisions flow to financial outcomes.

  • Ability to operate across Risk, Product, Distribution, Collections, Technology, and external third-party enablers (e.g. credit bureaus) to deliver practical solutions.

  • Comfortable leading insight development for governance committees (e.g. FRC, Line 2 Review and Challenge).

Why this role is distinct.

This role introduces practitioner-led credit risk capability that does not currently exist within the function – integrating data, strategy, analytics, governance, and financial impact awareness to move the team from reporting outcomes to shaping them. It embodies the shift from descriptive risk management to proactive, insight-driven leadership of the credit portfolio.
