Reporting to the Pacific Manager Capability Development, the Senior Adviser Future Capability leads strategic capability initiatives to build a resilient, future-ready organisation.

The role focuses on long-term capability planning for trade, technical and operational roles, aligning learning solutions with business strategy and industry requirements. Conducting gap analysis, applying compliance mindset and development of skills pathways, this role drives future-ready skill development ensuring RTA PacOps is adaptable to the impacts of decarbonization, automation and technology enhancements.

Working in a collaborative team, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end development of future-focused capability strategies aligned with business goals and workforce trends
  • Conduct workforce capability assessments and gap analyses to inform planning and improvement opportunities
  • Design and implement scalable development solutions that build future technical and operational capability
  • Design and develop Vocational Education Training (VET) delivery model for apprenticeships, traineeships, and talent pipeline initiatives (i.e.: work experience, Pre-apprenticeships)
  • Provide ongoing governance and assurance advice to site-based teams to ensure compliance with capability frameworks, policies and standards
  • Monitor emerging industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes to inform capability priorities
  • Research and forecast the skills and competencies needed for future mining operations, considering evolving technologies and sustainability requirements in partnership with the AoE.
  • Oversees the annual Training Needs Analysis (TNA) to ensure consistency with the Rio Tinto Learning Standard
  • Partner with HR, L&D, technical leaders and operational leaders to integrate capability planning into workforce strategy
  • Track and report on capability metrics and outcomes to demonstrate impact and inform continuous improvement

What you'll bring

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills and ability to work autonomously
  • Understanding of learning design principles and application within an operational environment
  • Strong understanding of governance, assurance, and compliance frameworks within mining, manufacturing or heavy industries
  • Proven experience in building technical capability development within a complex operational environment
  • Ability to anticipate long-term trends and workforce and capability implications
  • Experience in identifying capability gaps and aligning development with future workforce needs
  • Degree in Human Resources/Organisational Development

It would also be beneficial if you are;

  • Familiar with Learning Management Systems and data analytics
  • Ability to work effectively across large integrated organisations
  • Background in vocational education and training and knowledge of VET sector
