Veris has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure team in Melbourne.

In this role, you will be part of the team managing our enterprise systems, hybrid-cloud platforms, and core business applications that support our spatial data and surveying operations across Australia. You will provide focus on the design, delivery and support of secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure, while acting as an escalation point for complex issues.

This is a hands-on engineering role with strong input into future strategy, automation and continuous improvement across the ICT environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain and optimise on-premises and cloud infrastructure (servers, virtualisation, storage, networks, and core ICT systems).
  • Manage and support AWS environments, including performance, security and automation.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure, cloud, and application issues; perform in-depth root cause analysis.
  • Deliver infrastructure and cloud projects, including upgrades, migrations, and security uplift initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain system hardening, patching, monitoring, vulnerability management, and disaster recovery.
  • Automate routine processes and improve operational efficiency through scripting and tooling.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, vendors, and project stakeholders to deliver stable, secure technology outcomes.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation, runbooks, and technical standards; contribute to ICT continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Certifications*

  • AWS certification (e.g., CloudOps Engineer) highly regarded.
  • ITIL v3 or v4 certification desirable.
  • Additional vendor certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Cisco) beneficial.

Technical Expertise

  • Proven experience managing cloud platforms, particularly AWS (Azure experience beneficial).
  • Strong experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware).
  • Experience with enterprise networking, ideally Cisco Meraki or similar.
  • Proficient in Windows & Linux Server administration
  • Strong knowledge of backup and recovery tools such as Cohesity and Veeam.
  • Skilled in scripting/automation (PowerShell preferred).
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 and related security features.
  • Knowledge of application packaging and deployment using Intune, ManageEngine or similar tools

Security & Governance

  • Solid understanding of security frameworks (ISO 27001, Essential Eight).
  • Experience with cloud governance, policy and auditing (desirable)
