The Office of the Administrator is a small, energetic, dedicated team that deliver effective governance and management arrangements in support of the official duties of the Administrator of Norfolk Island. This includes community and statutory responsibilities. The Office ensures efficient and effective stewardship of Government House in accordance with heritage requirements and maintenance programs.
You will be part of a small and dynamic team which provides high quality executive support to the Administrator. You can expect to undertake procedural, clerical, administrative, educational, and operational tasks with limited supervision. You will provide high level advice on legislation frameworks, government decision-making and be responsible for the effective administration of the Norfolk Island Volunteer Awards. You will support the Administrator's Office to reinforce the Australian Government's shared values with the Norfolk Island community.
You will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. You will provide professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development. You will lead a team and be accountable to set work priorities and management workflows. You are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by your team. You will exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes.
What will you do ?
To be successful in the role, you will need to:
- Planning and managing the maintenance and program of the Administrator and their official household and official residence, Government House Norfolk Island, including the procurement of services and monitoring of existing arrangements
- Enhance and contemporize the impact of the Administrators role in modern Norfolk Island
- Operate under broad direction with independence to think critically, analyse and solve very complex or sensitive problems and make decisions that are based on professional judgement, evaluating evidence and risks in the context of a complex and changing environment
- Develop and support productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to respond to needs, manage expectations, develop solutions and solve problems.
- Provide advice to, and liaise with, Australian Government agencies and officials on Norfolk Island related matters.
- The role requires the successful candidate to hold and maintain a driver licence as travel between the office and third-party workplaces is required, and PPE will be provided for use while onsite.
Who are we looking for?
As the Senior Administration Officer, you will have a proven track record in a supervisory role, supporting Senior Government Officials. You will demonstrate the personal qualities and interpersonal skills necessary to perform in a remote location on Norfolk Island. Outstanding knowledge of Australian Government processes and administrative procedures is essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform the duties of the position in accordance with APS values, APS Employment Principles and Code of Conduct, details of which can be found on the APSC website.

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
- Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
- Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider.
- Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Clearance Level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. - Police check: The successful candidate must satisfactory complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
- Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
