About the team
The DISR Shared Services Hub (the Hub) currently provides payroll services to the Department and 14 other client agencies. Further modest growth is anticipated over the coming period.
Working in the Hub presents a unique opportunity to be involved in a dynamic service delivery environment. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to build their payroll and systems skills and to collaborate with colleagues across the APS. The Hub is strongly committed to delivering a high standard of payroll services in partnership with our client agencies.
The Hub's payroll service delivery is structured by teams – with each team servicing a number of clients, with an additional Queue Management team triaging and distributing ticketed client requests through the ServiceNow platform. Other Hub teams include Aurion, Projects, Onboarding, Assurance and Client Engagement.
As an APS6 Team Leader in Payroll Services, this is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team delivering in total over 14,000 payslips each fortnight.
The Hub adopts a collaborative and energetic approach to service delivery with a commitment to teamwork. We strive to meet and exceed agreed service levels and to build and sustain positive partnerships with client agencies. We undertake ongoing client engagement through our normal business practices and thorough regular forums at all levels.
As a Payroll Services Team Leader you will oversee a range of key tasks within the fortnightly pay cycle, prioritise your team's workload, and contribute to a positive, high-performance culture.
The Hub is committed to APS values and embraces the diversity and professionalism of its workforce. You will help identify and participate in relevant training and other team-building opportunities. You will have real opportunities to further your own professional development.
Flexible Work Arrangements are available to all staff relevant to the operational needs of the Hub.
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for the position and possess the following capabilities or experience:
- Ability to lead a team of payroll officers, including building a positive team environment and ensuring quality and timeliness of work.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships with all stakeholders
- Ability to work in a team environment within and across the Hub.
- Capacity to effectively support an Assistant Manager to deliver quality outcomes.
- Experience applying to more complex legislation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to relevant practices and procedures.
- Well-developed written, communication and other management skills.
- Knowledge of and adherence to information management and privacy procedures.
- Sound problem solving skills and judgement with attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills, including energy and drive, and the ability to prioritise key tasks.
- Resilient with a positive attitude embracing a dynamic work environment.
- A demonstrated respect for diversity and for APS Values.
- Experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system such as Aurion.
- Experience with helpdesk systems and dashboards, such as ServiceNow.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
- An understanding of APS values, working conditions and procedures.
As a Payroll Team Leader, working to an Assistant Manager, you will:
- Lead a team to complete fortnightly business-as-usual (BAU) payroll transactions, queries and related correspondence.
- Monitor and support team workloads to meet deadlines and quality-assure the daily work of the team.
- Manage more complex payroll tasks and respond to related correspondence (including some SES and Remuneration Tribunal processing).
- Understand and apply relevant APS legislation and terms and conditions including Enterprise Agreements, Workers Compensation and Superannuation procedures.
- Provide clear, comprehensive and accurate verbal and/or written advice to stakeholders within agreed timeframes.
- Maintain data in the Aurion payroll system and other platforms as required, in adherence with the Department's record management and privacy policies.
- Supervise, guide, and support team members, including through ongoing performance discussions and related training and support functions.
- Promote teamwork, including across other payroll and Hub teams.
- Participate in the development and updating of SOPs that underpin consistent payroll service.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
