The Clinical Provisional Fellow position in Immunisation is available at The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (NCIRS) for the 2026 Clinical Year, from 02 February 2026 to 31 January 2027. The Fellow is employed to assist with participation in the NSW Immunisation Specialist Service (NSWISS) and Immunisation clinics (specialist, general, and assisted immunisation clinics), provide vaccine safety support, participate in vaccine clinical trials, general immunisation research projects and teaching.

The Clinical Provisional Fellow will help coordinate the clinical research team and will involve in providing technical support on immunisation and vaccine safety related matters. The role will also support the day-to-day running of the clinical trials and research projects for both infants and adults and will be required to recruit subjects for vaccine trials, examine subjects, perform venepunctures, and assist with data analysis, preparation of reports and research protocols. The Fellow will provide clinical support to the opportunistic immunisation, including BCG clinic, service.

NCIRS is the leading research organisation in Australia that provides expert advice on all aspects of vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs), and other issues related to immunisation, to inform policy and planning for immunisation services in Australia and to support initiatives in the surveillance of VPDs, including disease surveillance, vaccine coverage and immunisation adverse events. This work is funded through agreements with the Australian and the New South Wales governments. The Centre is affiliated with the University of Sydney and staff may have appointments within the either the Discipline of Child and Adolescent Health, or the School of Public Health. NCIRS staff includes people with expertise in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, paediatrics, infectious diseases, and quantitative and qualitative survey methods.

Selection Criteria:

1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
2. Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an advanced trainee or equivalent. Those registered with the RACP, must have preferably completed a minimum 6 months as an advanced trainee with RACP (or equivalent) at commencement of Fellowship
3. Previous experience in the one or more of the following: experience in paediatrics &/or infectious diseases/microbiology/immunology and/or postgraduate research; experience in conducting clinical trial processes & methods, including ethics applications; and paediatric, epidemiology or public health qualifications or equivalent
4. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
5. Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals
6. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
7. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft word, access and excel and reference manager
8. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent time management, problem solving skills, clinical skills, judgment and expertise
