The Provisional Fellow position in Paediatric Metabolic Genetics is available for the second six months of the current Clinical Year, from 04 August 2025 to 01 February 2026.
The Genetic Metabolic Disorders Services at The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW) and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH), provide state-wide innovative diagnostic and management services for individuals with rare inborn errors of metabolism. The Provisional Fellow will participate in the clinical activities of the Genetic Metabolic Disorders Services, including, but not limited to, inpatient consultations, outpatient clinics, and participation in the after-hours on call, all of which will be under the supervision of the Metabolic Consultant on call at the time. The Provisional Fellow will be an active member of the multidisciplinary Genetic Metabolic Diseases Services at CHW and SCH, will be involved in the provision of inpatient and outpatient services to children at CHW and at SCH suspected of having or known to have a genetic metabolic disorder, will perform clinical research, and will be an active participant in educational activities.

As this is a position is across The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, the Fellow will be required to work across Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, and The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Selection Criteria:

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an advanced trainee or equivalent. Those registered with the RACP, must have preferably completed a minimum 6 months as an advanced trainee with RACP (or equivalent) at commencement of Fellowship.

6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent. Please detail relevant experience.

Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.

Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.

Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.

Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent time management, problem solving skills, clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
