About the Role

Are you an experienced engineer with the drive and passion to deliver capital projects? We have an opportunity for a senior project engineer to join the team at Alcoa's Wagerup refinery. The working roster available is Monday to Friday with a leisure day off in every four-week period.

As the senior project engineer, you will provide technical direction and leadership for Alcoa's capital projects to ensure the refinery capital projects have adequate front end loading including the development of best practical solutions for the opportunity or problem defined as well as the commissioning management of the project. You will also be accountable for project performance during the Basic Engineering, Detailed Engineering and Construction Phases of the project.

Other responsibilities of the role:

  • Leading the owner's team for each project to develop cost effective, operable and maintainable solutions to well defined problem or opportunity statements.
  • Ensuring the stakeholders understand and contribute to the progress of projects through the front-end loading phase and that issues that create potential for causing delays or cost overruns are well managed and raised appropriately.
  • Facilitate longer term opportunities for improvement through the sharing of knowledge and development of resources within Alcoa and preferred engineering houses.
  • Facilitate the delivery of timely and cost-effective project outcomes by meeting the refinery's business needs.
  • Ensuring projects align with statutory, Alcoa and plant requirements for design, construction, commissioning, and operation.
  • Engage the technical development group and other appropriate external resources to ensure best practice design and implementation is achieved and to provide practical, cost-effective solutions aimed at minimising capital intensity.
  • Provide Technical, Operational and Maintenance input into the Project Execution Plan with a focus on safety, environment, operability, maintainability, and ergonomics.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering field coupled with relevant experience in a project management field in capital projects and asset delivery.
  • Additionally, the ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of engineering design experience in brownfields installation..
  • Business and customer focus perspective and an appreciation of engineering alliance type relationships.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills coupled with previous engineering supervisory experience.
  • Alumina, heavy industry or refinery experience is preferred.
