The Opportunity
As an Asset Engineer, you will support the development and integration of best practices in road network asset modelling and data management. Reporting to the Principal Asset Analyst, you will contribute to evidence-based decision making across Strategy and Operations teams by improving asset management systems and developing new modelling approaches.
You will play a key role in implementing data collection and management strategies, interpreting engineering drawings, and applying infrastructure standards. Your technical skills will help transform asset information into meaningful models that support long-term planning and performance.

- Supporting the development and enhancement of asset management systems and modelling tools.
- Implementing data strategies and ensuring accuracy in asset data collection and entry.
- Interpreting engineering drawings and applying infrastructure standards to support modelling and analysis.
- Contributing to the transformation of asset data into actionable insights for strategic decision making.
About You
You are a detail-oriented and analytical professional with a strong foundation in asset management and data analysis.
You will bring:
- A collaborative approach to working with staff and stakeholders, contributing to quality outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information and produce clear, timely reports and recommendations.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
- Sound knowledge of asset management principles, including planning, maintenance and emerging trends.
- A solution-focused mindset, with the ability to make well-informed decisions and manage competing priorities.
- High-level mathematical and reasoning skills, with experience using data platforms to generate insights and support evidence-based decision making.
Qualifications/Experience
- A recognised degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline providing eligibility for professional accreditation is required.
- Experience in asset management and maintenance systems, road asset network modelling or projects, and pavement management systems or databases is desirable, with proficiency in data analysis tools and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) considered beneficial.
Special Conditions
- A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
- Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
