Are you a qualified Urban and Regional Planner with a strong foundation in strategic planning and policy development? Do you excel at providing technical advice and communicating complex ideas clearly? Can you build collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholder groups while confidently representing the Department?

If so, you could be our next Senior Policy Planner within the Strategy and Engagement Division of the Department. The Strategy and Engagement Division provides leadership and coordination for complex planning and development projects, working in partnership with other government agencies and key stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes.

This a full-time, permanent position. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.

The Perth office is located in Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail; close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.

To be successful in this position, you need to demonstrate the following requirements:

  • An accredited tertiary degree qualification in Urban and Regional Planning and/or Development or an approved relevant degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, with a sound knowledge of planning practices, legislation, policy system, and/or infrastructure coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire meaningful knowledge and understanding of different subject matters and the ability to provide strategic and statutory advice on this acquired knowledge.
  • A high standard of communication and presentation skills in liaising with, advising and negotiating with stakeholders and the public about complex technical planning policy related matters.
  • Experience in the analysis, development, review or implementation of complex policy.
  • Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context as outlined below.

Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context Personal Leadership. The Personal Leadership context is about the work of individuals not yet in traditional leadership positions who make a direct and immediate difference to the agency.
