The opportunity

At WSP, we're committed to inclusive, sustainable communities and meaningful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement. We're looking for an experienced Indigenous Specialist to join our Transport & Infrastructure team and lead engagement across key projects.

The applicant identified as Aboriginal (this is preferred), will play a critical role in fostering meaningful relationships between Aboriginal communities, stakeholders, and project teams.

You will enable Aboriginal voices, knowledge, and cultural values to be embedded at various stages of the project lifecycle, from planning to delivery.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by S14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The role will be based in Sydney with projects across Australia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Support & Advice: provide expert advice to clients, contractors, and internal teams on Aboriginal participation, maximising opportunities for economic and social development in Indigenous communities
  • Government Policy Compliance: produce culturally safe materials and deliver advice consistent with government policies and directions related to Aboriginal culture and heritage
  • Client Relationships: establish and nurture strong relationships with key Aboriginal clients and organisations, enhancing the value proposition of our services
  • Connection to Country: supporting connection to country initiatives in project delivery including facilitation of consultation with Aboriginal clan groups

About You

You will ideally bring as many of the following skills and attributes:

  • Strong background in Aboriginal engagement and consultation, with proven experience in infrastructure or similar sectors
  • Deep knowledge of Aboriginal culture, heritage, and the ability to work with Aboriginal communities in a respectful, empowering manner
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and develop meaningful relationships with clients, contractors, and key Aboriginal stakeholders
  • Experience in facilitating Walk on Country experiences, engaging with Traditional Owners, and running workshops with Elders and Knowledge Holders
  • Desired experience in developing and implementing Aboriginal Participation Plans, particularly in infrastructure projects
  • Project delivery expertise and ideally Project Management experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to create culturally safe materials and provide expert advice
