Project Overview:

Bechtel helps customers deliver projects of purpose that create a lasting positive legacy globally. These large, complex, and multi-disciplined projects create jobs, grow economies, and provide opportunities for local and regional communities. The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people.

The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.

Job Summary:

The Area Superintendent Flotation and Thickeners is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the SMP discipline on an EPC (direct hire) Copper Processing Plant Project. Supervises and directs Structural, Mechanical and Piping package superintendents, supervisors, craft professionals and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction performance is following specifications and within schedules and budgets.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis to North Queensland, operating on a 2:1 roster

Major Responsibilities:

• Implementing the project ES&H program and quality control program
• Providing leadership and championing the "Zero Accidents" philosophy
• Supervises, coordinates and/or directs craft activities as assigned for the Structural, Mechanical and Piping disciplines
• Coordinating craft safety training and always enforcing safe work practices in conjunction with the ES&H staff
• Planning the craft manpower and interfacing with Industrial Relations for craft recruitment, hiring, and skills training programs
• Supervising and coordinating the work activities of Structural, Mechanical and Piping scopes and maintaining overall responsibility for quality
• Oversight of the needs of the Structural, Mechanical and Piping crews for craft personnel, subcontractor support, construction services, construction equipment, tools, and consumables as well as optimizing their utilization
• Review and approve the weekly work plans in conjunction with the area planners
• Approve material requisitions for all tools and consumables required to execute the work and coordinating with the tool manager to obtain materials
• Ensuring all rigging and lifting activities are done in a safe manner
• Ensuring current revision documents are utilized for the Structural, Mechanical and Piping installation
• Interfacing with the field engineering staff to resolve installation conflicts and fabrication errors and to obtain technical assistant for the craft supervisors and work force
• Working closely with other lead discipline superintendents and coordinating efforts and activities to meet the overall project requirements
• Providing input to the quantity tracking application and reporting weekly installed quantities to the responsible field engineer
• Maintaining a high level of housekeeping throughout the work area
• Coordinating and supporting all Structural, Mechanical and Piping-related subcontractor work activities

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Must have knowledge and understanding of construction operations at the jobsite
• Must be familiar with the Bechtel Business Ethics handbook and policies.
• Must have knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Bechtel Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Core Processes and Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" philosophy.
• Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs).
• Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects.
• Must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current BSAP standards.
• Must be familiar with current industry quality standards and applicable code requirements.
• Must have knowledge and understanding of the formation and administration of construction subcontracts.
