AMA (WA)

The Australian Medical Association AMA (WA) is currently seeking an Industrial Relations Adviser to join the Workplace Relations Team.

Who are we?

As the peak industry body for doctors, the AMA (WA) is the leading and trusted voice for better healthcare. We represent, support and advocate for doctors, patients, and the community. We are active on all matters that relate to the standard of healthcare and provide a broad range of services.

What will I be required to do?

  • Provide coordination and supportive practical workplace relations advice, and leadership to members, and advocate for AMA (WA) members and committees.
  • Resolve workplace relations matters for AMA (WA) members.
  • Represent AMA (WA) at WAIRC or Fair Work Commission as required.
  • Actively contribute to AMA (WA) advocacy and health policy formulation.
  • Negotiate and liaise with public and private employers.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of effective strategies for the health sector.
  • Collective bargaining and negotiation of relevant EBA's.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of employment law, including industrial relations legislation across both State and Federal jurisdictions.
  • Ability to provide advice on complex issues and provide practical solutions, including workplace dispute investigation, resolution, and negotiations.
  • Extensive policy development, interpretation, and implementation skills.
  • Highly effective communication skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Able to work as part of a team in an environment that is subject to ongoing change and with fluctuating work volumes.
  • Able to lead, coach and manage a team.
  • Qualification in industrial relations, legal area, or similar equivalent.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of unions and membership-based organisations.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in employment law
  • Knowledge of State and/or Federal health systems, and public and private sector
