The company services primarily the Government and Commercial markets with expertise within public safety, mining, utilities, events, transport and rail sectors, providing communication products and solutions to support the industries ever growing and evolving needs.
Simoco is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and manage all operational aspects of the business across Australia. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the COO will drive operational excellence, support strategic growth, and ensure that Simoco's solutions are delivered with precision, quality, and customer satisfaction.
The company has ambitious growth plans and requires a leader with a proven track record of operational excellence, business growth and team leadership. This role involves cross-functional leadership across engineering, project delivery, solutions design, assembly, product fulfilment, service, repair, maintenance & customer support.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Oversee all day-to-day operations nationally, ensuring that projects and services are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
Strategic Execution
Translate the company's strategic goals into operational plans and ensure alignment with global business objectives and local market requirements.
Project & Programme Oversight
Ensure successful delivery of complex communications infrastructure projects, with a focus on quality, compliance, and risk management. Use Prince2 or similar project management methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Commercial Performance
Drive operational efficiency, manage resource planning and cost control, and support sustainable revenue growth.
Team Leadership & Culture
Lead and inspire high-performing teams, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, safety, and accountability.
Cross Functional Support
Work closely with all departments within the business to ensure reliable and open communications and collegiate working environment.
Customer & Partner Engagement
Build strong relationships with key clients, government stakeholders, and technology partners to enhance Simoco's presence and reputation.
Compliance & RiskEnsure full compliance with all relevant Australian laws, safety regulations, and industry standards across the organisation.
Operational Improvement & Innovation
Lead continuous improvement initiatives and support the adoption of modern technologies, systems, and processes.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Telecommunications, or a related field (required).
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or another relevant postgraduate qualification (desirable).
Professional Certifications (desirable, not essential)
- PMP, PRINCE2, or other project/programme management certification.
- Lean Six Sigma or operational excellence qualification.
- AICD (Australian Institute of Company Directors) or equivalent executive training.
Technical & Industry Knowledge
- Solid understanding of telecommunications or wireless communications (e.g., DMR, P25, LTE, private LTE, LEO/GEO).
- Familiarity with public and private sector procurement and contract management in Australia.
- Knowledge of WHS (Work Health and Safety), quality systems, and operational risk frameworks.
Experience
- 10+ years' senior operational leadership experience in telecommunications, technology, or engineering sectors.
- Proven success in managing complex, large-scale projects and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience working with mission-critical or infrastructure-based systems, ideally within highly regulated environments.
- Strong track record in implementing operational improvements and managing organisational change.
