Job Description – Technical Lead (IBM WebSphere & Middleware)

We are seeking a hands-on technical leader with strong expertise in IBM technologies, particularly WebSphere Application Server (WAS) and IBM HTTP Server (IHS). The ideal candidate will guide and mentor a team of engineers at different experience levels, while also being actively involved in troubleshooting, administration, and production support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of junior and senior engineers, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
  • Administer and support IBM WebSphere environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup/recovery, performance tuning, and security.
  • Manage and maintain WebSphere Commerce (WCS), WAS, and Web servers (IHS, Apache, and others) across multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, Solaris).
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex incidents, outages, and performance issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage incidents, changes, and problem resolutions.
  • Proactively analyze vulnerabilities and apply mitigation strategies, including fix pack installations and upgrades.
  • Automate WebSphere configuration and administration tasks using Jython scripting (AdminConfig, AdminTask, AdminControl) and shell scripting.
  • Configure JNDI data sources, manage DB connection pools, and ensure seamless integration with backend systems.
  • Troubleshoot application issues including memory leaks, java core/heap dump analysis, and work closely with IBM support for resolution.
  • Oversee SSL certificate management and security compliance across environments.
  • Utilize and maintain infrastructure monitoring tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, AppInsight/SiteScope) to ensure system reliability and performance.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in IBM WebSphere, Web servers (IHS, Apache), and WCS environments.
  • Proficient in production troubleshooting, performance analysis, and on-call support.
  • Solid scripting skills in Jython and shell scripting for automation.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and log analysis tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, AppInsight).
  • Knowledge of Azure infrastructure and container orchestration (Kubernetes) is an advantage.
