ICT Infrastructure Design Officer

is seeking to engage a
ICT Infrastructure Design Officer - APS5.
This is a long-term contractual position.

Contract Duration:
34 Months (10 months initially + 24 months extension)

Work Location:
Canberra (Onsite work for first 6 Months, the after hybrid working available after approval)

Eligibility:
You must need to have NV1 Security Clearance or above.

Tentative Start Date:
1st Sep 2025

Position Description:

Design Officers contribute to the creation, development and improvement of designs for a service.

Key duties and responsibilities:

The Specified Personnel will be responsible for providing the following deliverables including but not limited to:

• Managing and preparing files for production, ensuring designs align with user needs and standards.
• Providing technical information for multiple projects and deliverables.
• Coordinating quality control, meetings and documentation.
• Developing and creating design concepts and prototypes.
• Developing positive team ethos within the immediate work group through positive participation and communication.
• Coordinating the engagement of Subject Matter Experts as required to deliver the products.

Specified Personnel will be expected to transfer skills and knowledge to departmental staff and ensure appropriate documentation is stored in accordance with the Department's recordkeeping policy and practices.

The Specified Personnel will also be responsible for producing the following deliverables, including but not limited to:

• Technical Documentation.
• Drafting key inputs and requirements for ICT room design cooling, power and cabling solutions.
• Network topologies.
• Room layout floor plans.
• ICT Rack configuration plans.
• Responding to Requests for Information.

Technical skills:

ICT Communications, infrastructure & associated services, technical writing and Drafting i.e. AutoCAD and Visio.

About the team:

The Data Centre Infrastructure Services team (DCIS) provide ICT design services to project managers as part of a program of works encompassing stakeholders such as the Departmental Emerging Ports Section, Property Division and Industry led initiatives.

About the project:

Produce and deliver design products on time to support the Department in receiving fit for purpose standard infrastructure.

About the organisation:

The role contributes to the Department receiving fit for purpose, standardised and consistent ICT infrastructure at the completion of each project.

Essential Criteria:

• User experience design level 3 - Applies standard patterns, techniques and tools for designing ICT infrastructure and service components. Reviews design goals and agreed security, usability and accessibility requirements. Assists, as part of a team, with overall user experience design. Assists in the evaluation of design options and trade-offs. Consistently applies guidelines.
• User experience evaluation level 2 - Assists in preparing and delivering the ICT infrastructure. Assists in the collection of feedback on prototypes and designs from users and others.
• Demonstrated experience in coordinating resources and accurate recording of effort.
• Proven ability to work within a structured ICT and project management governance framework and deliver results that adhere to relevant Commonwealth standards and policies.

Desirable Criteria:

• Time management and prioritisation.
• Experience with design and delivery of ICT infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated understanding of the PSPF and ISM.
