Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Strategic Business Advisor in Canberra to work on Space projects .

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

  • Develop a comprehensive asset management plan for products under sustainment within the CJC06 Ground/Control and Space Segment.

  • Review existing performance metrics and recommend changes to align with strategic capability outcomes, moving beyond transactional-level measures.

  • Construct a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) for the Control segment to identify and organize products requiring support.

  • Update the Life of Type (LoT) assessment and advise on obsolescence management to support sustainment funding and potential life extension planning.

Provide recommendations to transition from fragmented contract activities to strategic industry partnerships, while identifying and mitigating limitations in data and analytical tools.

What You'll Bring

  • Strategic Asset Management Expertise - Proven experience in developing and implementing asset management plans within complex defence or technical environments, particularly across ground, control, and space segments.

  • Performance Metrics and Capability Planning - Ability to critically assess and redesign performance measures to align with strategic capability outcomes, moving beyond transactional-level indicators.

  • Analytical and Systems Thinking - Skilled in developing Product Breakdown Structures (PBS), conducting Life of Type (LoT) assessments, and applying structured analysis to inform sustainment and obsolescence strategies.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication - Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align diverse interests to CJC preparedness objectives and facilitate collaboration across Defence and industry partners.

  • Risk Identification and Mitigation - Competence in identifying limitations in data quality, analytical tools, and predictive modelling, and formulating practical strategies to address and mitigate these constraints.

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
