Why your role matters

The Senior Officer, Academic Language and Literacy Development, plays a vital role in designing, delivering, and evaluating inclusive and scalable programs that strengthen students' English language proficiency and academic literacy throughout their learning journey. This position focuses on embedding language and literacy support into the curriculum and developing high-quality co-curricular initiatives that help students build both foundational and discipline-specific skills. All activities are guided by pedagogical best practice and aligned with the university's strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Lead, Academic Success and Faculty Engagement, the Senior Officer works collaboratively with academic staff, faculties, and central teams to create learning resources, activities, and assessment tools that promote student achievement and engagement. The role also supports the implementation of technology-enhanced learning solutions and contributes to key institutional initiatives, including the Academic Language and Literacy Embedding (ALLE) project and the Post-Entry English Language (PEAL) Framework, helping to ensure a cohesive and impactful approach to academic language and literacy development across the university.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Collaborate with academic and professional staff to co-design and deliver learning activities, assessment tasks, and digital resources that support academic communication and literacy development across disciplines.
  • Contribute to the development and rollout of technology-enabled platforms and tools that enhance student access to academic language and literacy support.
  • Assist in the evaluation of student needs and program impact through data analysis, feedback collection, and reporting, contributing to continuous improvement and evidence-informed practice.

About You:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in education, applied linguistics, TESOL, academic development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering academic literacy and English language support resources and programs in a tertiary context. Familiarity with adaptive learning technologies and digital platforms for academic support.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education principles, including UDL and support for diverse student cohorts.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with academic staff to embed academic skills into curriculum and assessment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and disciplines.
  • Experience in evaluating program effectiveness using data and feedback.
