Opal ANZ is an industry-leading paper and packaging business. We have an opportunity to join the Opal team and lead freight optimization as we are currently looking for an International Customer Service & Freight Manager to come onboard
Based out of our head office site in Burnley, Victoria the key focus of this role will be to:
- Lead and execute a comprehensive annual sea-freight tender process for all Opal businesses, driving competitive outcomes and securing best-in-market rates and service levels
- Strategically negotiate cost savings and improved service outcomes through proactive supplier management
- Apply your leadership skills to build a unified culture rooted in One Opal values, supporting seamless collaboration and strong team performance across both business groups
- Identify and manage risks across global shipping lanes, ensuring contingency plans safeguard customer deliveries and margin performance
- Continually analyse and review the worldwide Shipping environment, as well as all Opal Business Units shipping requirements
- Lead the international customer service teams in a positive, collaborative and engaging manner
- Collaborate with a range of internal & external stakeholders to ensure that shipping and customer service activities are aligned with business objectives and meet customer requirements
- Provide support to the General Manager of Global Paper Sales – playing a key role in shaping the strategy, providing insights, and reporting on relevant metrics/ targets

For this role we would ideally like you to have:
- 5+ years of experience working with or for international shipping lines & freight forwarders
- Proven leadership and people management experience, promoting a positive and collaborative working culture
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding in how the changing word markets can impact in operations & negotiations
- Experience in using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- A customer-focussed mindset, with experience supporting sales teams
