Osborne Richardson continue to be the key partner of Queensland State Government across the Scientific, Biosecurity and Agricultural sectors and we are delighted to be able to offer several fantastic opportunities in Brisbane.
With an immediate start, and with roles running until 30th June 2026 initially (extension always very much possible with this department, where work doesn't ever truly come to an end), these roles will support the wider biosecurity operations being undertaken on 2 specific, targeted areas over the coming 12 months.
We are seeking both a GIS Project Officer(A05) and GIS Project Planning Officer(A04) to join the team and add value in their GIS team. Your duties will be as follows:
GIS Project Planning Officer (A05)
- Provide accurate maps and information to enable and sustain aerial treatment of large areas of land by contracted Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and helicopters.
- Supervise a specialist team in accordance with departmental policies including performance and development and training of staff, timesheets, and leave applications.
- Train staff in the standard operating procedures and policies required for their role and take appropriate steps to ensure procedures are followed and up to date.
- Allocate work assignments to staff, track progress, write progress reports and trouble-shoot issues that arise. Ensure staff have access to required procedures and resources and manage those resources effectively.
- Plan and allocate tasks in line with the work plan and operational priorities for the Aerial Treatment Program.
- Monitor progress of operational outcomes and targets and identify actions and resources required to correct any variation from the targets and to support future resource planning.
- Provide specialist knowledge and ability to interpret and apply information to operational activities. The work responsibilities are a combination of technical (i.e. geospatial knowledge), professional (i.e. correspondence external stakeholders), project (i.e. contribution to FAST aerial operations), procedural (i.e. developing and refining work instructions) and processing (i.e. management of large and complex datasets).
- Contribute to planning of the Aerial Treatment Program by mapping consented properties and defining work lot boundaries.
- Monitor and edit data for accuracy and maintain electronic and hard copy records, raising data issues where required to ensure data integrity in accordance with department standards. Applying judgement, where required, to ensure compliance.
- Independent action, problem-solving, and managing competing priorities effectively. Often only general direction is provided in relation to task methodologies and work practices. The position is expected to set priorities and monitor workflow in relation for job creation and planning tasks they take responsibility for.
- Export and review reports and data from relevant systems. Collate and order the exported data to be escalated to management for decision-making and/or reporting purposes.
Highly desirable for this role
- Knowledge of ArcGIS or other GIS software qualifications in a related field
GIS Planning Support Officer (A04)

- Contribute to planning of the Aerial Treatment Program by mapping consented properties and defining work lot boundaries.
- Provide high-quality, timely and accurate support including developing and implementing of internal quality assurance measures and delivery of information and documentation.
- Monitor and edit data for accuracy and maintain electronic and hard copy records, raising data issues where required to ensure data integrity in accordance with department standards. Applying judgement, where required, to ensure compliance.
- Requirement to take responsibility for coordinating, prioritising and delivering workflow in the job creation space. This includes refining processes to ensure their work is completed efficiently.
- Participate in user acceptance testing, troubleshooting and provide feedback for system upgrades to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of operational administrative tasks.
- Provide high quality customer /supplier services by responding to enquiries and accurately recording details on relevant databases. Demonstrating advanced communication and liaison skills to deliver effective client services.
- Export and review reports and data from relevant systems. Collate and order the exported data to be escalated to management for decision-making and/or reporting purposes.
