As a Sydney Line Maintenance (SLM) Shift Manager you will provide leadership to the maintenance and support groups within the Sydney Line Maintenance business. With a focus on production, OTP and resource management, this role will align the operational priorities with those of the Qantas Group to deliver services and products that meet customer requirements.

In this role, you will be responsible for the 24/7 management of a large number of technical and operational staff to ensure the completion of multiple routine and technically complex aircraft maintenance events. These activities will also include major disruptions, often across multiple shifts and managing multiple crews. This role is accountable for the management of transit activities, repair, rectification, prioritisation and tactical redeployment of aircraft and crews. This role will model and embed the Qantas Beliefs and Values across the SLM business.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Proven operational decision-making capabilities, with the ability to deliver on objectives under pressure while upholding Qantas' core values
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of aircraft maintenance, including over 5 years managing an aircraft maintenance or engineering environment (Part 42), supported by tertiary qualifications in engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge across finance, human resources, and employee relations
  • Solid understanding of CASA Civil Aviation Safety Regulations, other NAA airworthiness regulations, and regulatory frameworks governing WHS, industrial relations, and environmental compliance
  • A strong track record in leading teams and driving performance
  • The ability to develop and present concepts that translate into tangible business benefits
  • Well-developed project management skills with a focus on delivery and execution
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft Line and Base Maintenance operations
  • A clear understanding of aircraft planning processes and their operational impact
  • Advanced analytical thinking and adaptable problem-solving capabilities
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills across a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • The capacity to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently or build cross-functional teams to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work a rotational shift roster.
