About the Role

The Environmental Operations branch is responsible for the preservation, management and enhancement of council's diverse range of environmental and recreational assets and in partnership with our community, the rich biodiversity of the region's landscapes. The branch plays an active role within council, liaising with other units, as well as with the community to maintain and deliver high quality environmental outcomes.

The Conservation Officer supports various teams across the Branch. We are looking for excited Conservation Officers to join our team and support the delivery of environmental education, behaviour change and environmental awareness programs and activities, ensuring best practice environmental education and engagement service delivery.

Duties will include:

• Design and deliver curriculum based environmental education programs and resources to ensure alignment with the Australian Curriculum including inquiry-based principles, design thinking, virtual education content development and delivery.
• Develop and manage environmental education incursions and excursions, and online programs for primary and secondary students and general community members that align with the environmental outcomes of the branch and councils Environment and Liveability Strategy.
• Deliver communication and awareness activities to market and promote educational activities and programs.
• Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and activities and identify opportunities for improvement to modify and achieve educational outcomes.
• Maintain networks and partnerships with service providers, educational facilities and key internal and external stakeholders to foster their participation and cooperative involvement in the development of educational activities and programs.
• Provide information relating to environmental issues as requested by staff and the public to improve community engagement and education outcomes.

About you

As the Casual Pool Conservation Officer, you will have demonstrated experience in curriculum development and skills in event management including programming, workshop facilitation and training, presenting and coordinating public events.

To fulfill the role and see your impact in our community and region, you will have demonstrated skills in bushland regeneration, plant and weed identification, habitat assessment and management of ecologically sensitive areas.

You will have with well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with strong time management.

You will possess demonstrated ability to operate effectively with relevant business technologies and understanding of Workplace Health & Safety requirements and work practices.

Formal qualification in Environmental Education or related discipline is desirable and highly regarded for this role.

Pre-Employment Medical Required

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
