We're looking for a Labs Lead to join Australia Post's newly established Innovation Lab. Our Innovation Lab is instrumental in exploring frontier technologies focused on driving cutting-edge technological innovation to help deliver transformational outcomes for the Australia Post business and its customers and to deliver better outcomes for tomorrow. 

What you'll deliver with us

You'll be responsible for identifying and leveraging emerging technologies which align with strategic priorities and business needs as well as guiding rapid experimentation, prototyping and strategic implementation.  

In this role you'll work closely with engineering and business teams, external partners, and start-ups to lead them through an innovation framework and methodology.  

You'll also

  • Shape Technology Strategy: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand business challenges, emerging technologies and industry-specific tech trends to identify and define technology innovation strategies and priorities which align with organisational strategies.
  • Manage Opportunity Identification, Prioritisation and Portfolio Development: Conduct research, competitive technology assessment and analysis to identify, prioritise and establish a portfolio of emerging opportunities which have potential disruptive technological applications and address business challenges.
  • Develop Solution Design & Prototyping: Lead the ideation, conceptualisation, and rapid prototyping of cutting-edge technologies, ensuring technical feasibility, scalability, sizeable and quantifiable business impact and alignment with user needs and pain points using assessment framework.
  • Lead Projects: Manage technology innovation projects and cross functional teams through the innovation framework from ideate, proof-of-concept to pilot deployment through to MVP and business handover.
  • Conduct Performance Monitoring & Analytics: Establish and track technical and business metrics to measure impact and success of initiatives.

About you

You'll possess a deep understanding of emerging technologies and how they can be applied to solve business challenges coupled with the ability to critically evaluate the technical viability and scalability of new technologies.  

You'll be well versed in design thinking, business consulting, critical thinking, agile software development methodologies, and using data analytics to translate complex business challenges into desirable, feasible, viable, and impactful technology POC's, prototypes, MVP's and roadmaps which drive transformational change. 

You'll also need

  • Expertise in various innovation frameworks and tools
  • The ability to critically evaluate technical viability and scalability of new technologies and concepts. This includes understanding the underlying engineering principles, architectural and security implications, and potential integration challenges,
  • The capacity to conduct thorough financial analyses, including detailed cost projections, accurate revenue forecasts, and robust return on investment (ROI) assessments for proposed innovation projects
  • Experience in exploring, designing, and developing new revenue streams and innovative business models
  • The capacity to think unconventionally, challenge existing paradigms, and devise novel solutions to complex business and technological problems
