About The Role
APEM Group Australia are looking for a Financial Controller to join our team in a pivotal role as we continue our growth journey. This represents a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor and establish a best practice finance function as APEM Group (UK) expands its operations in Australia and the broader Asia Pacific region. You will be responsible for establishing new processes for the group as well as streamlining existing processes, providing a solid platform for sustainable growth.
As the Financial Controller, you will report to the Finance Director and provide effective and insightful financial analysis as well as deliver on annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and monthly reporting, enabling a strong understanding of business performance and KPIs. You will work alongside the APEM Group Australia Board and wider senior management team, to understand and improve the financial performance of the business.
A key part of this role will be to work with APEM Group's management team to provide accurate and timely financial information to support informed decision making, implementing and maintaining a robust financial control environment in addition to ensuring working capital management is optimised. You will also be delivering certain Group strategic projects, while overseeing operational finance and managing statutory reporting, tax compliance and treasury matters across Australia whilst working alongside Group leads in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ownership of the day-to-day finance operations for the business, ensuring financial controls are monitored and in place, and with the overall responsibility for the Operational Finance team and their activities (i.e.: AP, AR, payroll, and treasury) in Australia
- Management of month end close, including monthly P&L, balance sheet & management reporting for APEM Group Australia and the individual Business Sectors
- Assist with delivery of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts
- Manage statutory reporting and tax compliance obligations within lodgement timeframes, including, but not limited to: Audit liaison and provision of support data and documentation; income tax; payroll tax; BAS; and FBT
To be successful in this role, you will need
- Qualified accountant – CA / CPA or equivalent with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience
- Experience overseeing operational finance, treasury (including cash management), taxation, statutory financial reporting and management reporting to board level
- Experience managing teams, with interest in the development of others and a desire to elevate those around you
- Experience working with senior stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills, ability to clearly articulate financial information to non-financial people, providing the basis pragmatic business decisions
- Excellent data analytical skills including financial modelling and scenario planning
- Strong system skills, Microsoft suite and finance systems – PowerBI, formulas, macros, pivot tables etc.
- Experience working for a Private Equity backed business - desirable
