Role Overview

The Retail Bottle Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a premium independent bottle shop, with a strong focus on customer service, supplier

engagement, stock management, and local brand representation. This is a dynamic and rewarding role suited to someone who enjoys autonomy, has an eye for detail, and is keen to grow with an expanding group.

You'll also play a key role in sourcing new products, negotiating with suppliers, setting pricing based on target margins, managing in-store promotions and specials, and contributing to the future development of the business—including assisting with the setup of new locations and potential multi-site leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring the stores are clean, well-stocked, and running smoothly.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and foster a welcoming retail environment.
  • Lead and train team members to uphold brand standards and compliance obligations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to liquor licensing and responsible service requirements.

Product Sourcing & Supplier Liaison

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and reps.
  • Source new and exciting products in line with customer trends and premium positioning.
  • Manage order cycles and negotiate pricing to maximise value and margins.
  • Coordinate promotional activity and in-store specials with supplier support.

Stock Management & Merchandising

  • Monitor stock levels, conduct stocktakes, and manage inventory movement.
  • Cost products appropriately and maintain pricing in line with margin targets.
  • Execute eye-catching merchandising and retail displays that drive sales.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and promo communication throughout the store.

Business & Brand Development

  • Represent HBH Group's retail values and maintain our premium independent brand voice.
  • Provide feedback on sales trends, customer preferences, and competitor activity.
  • Assist in the setup of future bottle shop locations, including fit-out planning, systems setup, and stock establishment.
  • Opportunity to grow into a multi-site retail management role as HBH Group expands.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years in a retail liquor management role (or similar hospitality retail).
  • Sound knowledge of liquor products and industry trends.
  • Experience with supplier negotiation, product costing, and inventory systems.
  • Understanding of retail merchandising and promotional activity.
  • Current RSA and an understanding of licensing laws.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A proactive and commercially driven mindset.
