The Australian Government is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the appointment of either Administrator Christmas Island Cocos (Keeling) Islands (Indian Ocean Territories), or Administrator of Norfolk Island. As the principal Australian Government representative residing in the Indian Ocean Territories and on Norfolk Island, Administrators support, shape, implement and communicate government policies on behalf of the Minister, through advocacy, decision-making and delivering good governance, applying and upholding relevant legislation, regulations and policies. Administrators also represent the Australian Government in public, statutory, civic and ceremonial duties, including through public speaking and community engagement.

Suitable candidates will have previously held a senior executive or eminent position, and the ability to represent the Australian Government with integrity and diplomacy in a diverse range of fora – including engagement with the media. Strong stakeholder engagement skills and sensitivity to the unique circumstances of remote and diverse communities are essential.

This is a unique opportunity to live and work in one of Australia's external territories, immersed in vibrant, diverse island communities. Administrators will be engaged on a full-time basis for a period of up to three years, living on island, supported by a small on-island team and the Territories Division in the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts.
