About the Position

The Resources Librarian - Collections has the primary responsibility for the effective development and promotion of engaging library resource collection across a range of formats that support the recreational, cultural and lifelong learning needs of the City of South Perth community. Working within their allocated portfolio, the Resources Librarian - Collections will lead a team to achieve a range of operational outcomes by:

  • Developing, evaluating and providing specialist services in collection management, including cataloguing and classification of library resources.
  • Liaising with suppliers and vendors, contractors, consultants, library professionals and the community.
  • Delivering the services of the portfolio in accordance with legislation, adopted strategies and plans to meet community needs and organisational priorities.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and best practice.
  • Complying with the requirements of the Library Board of Western Australia Act and associated legislation and regulations.

To be successful in this position you will need to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications allowing eligibility for Associate Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • High level knowledge and skills in library resource collection management and development.
  • Sound knowledge of cataloguing and classification tools, as well as copyright and access restrictions.
  • Well-developed reference and information seeking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Advanced competency with computer software programs including Microsoft Office, financial systems and Library Management Systems.
  • Previous experience in collection management within a library.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory position.
  • Current National Police Clearance.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current 'C' Class Driver's Licence (or mechanism to transport yourself between the 2 library branches).
