Production Designer

Rydalmere, New South Wales, Australia Expo Centric Full time

Expo Centric designs and builds some of Australia's most innovative, award-winning exhibition stands. We're where creativity meets engineering — and we need a Production Designer who can bridge the gap between concept and construction, turning bold designs into reality with precision, efficiency, and flair.

The Role

You'll be the link between our 3D Design, Project Management, and Factory teams — transforming creative concepts into accurate, build-ready technical drawings and CNC programs.

You'll take ownership of how things are made: from detailed CAD drawings and materials selection to CNC cutting files and production optimisation. If you can spot a clash before it happens and shave hours off a build time through smarter nesting or design, you'll fit right in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create accurate and detailed technical drawings for exhibition stands, joinery, and custom components.
  • Translate 3D design concepts into build-ready CAD documentation and fabrication packs.
  • Prepare, optimise, and program CNC files (nesting, toolpathing, cutting) using CAM software.
  • Collaborate with the 3D design team to ensure all design intent is achievable, cost-effective, and structurally sound.
  • Liaise with production and installation teams to ensure smooth handover and flawless execution.
  • Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and suggest smarter, faster ways to build.
  • Maintain drawing standards, file organisation, and consistency across projects.
  • Support innovation in sustainable materials, modular systems, and manufacturing efficiency.

About You

You're equal parts designer and engineer — creative enough to appreciate aesthetics, technical enough to understand tolerances. You're comfortable in the workshop and behind a computer. You take pride in producing documentation that builders trust and CNC machines love.

Skills & Experience

  • 3–5+ years' experience in exhibition, event, or joinery production design.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or SolidWorks.
  • Skilled in CAM programming with software such as Fusion 360, VCarve, or EnRoute.
  • Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and joinery construction methods.
  • Experience preparing cutting lists, exploded views, and build documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and obsessive attention to detail.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight expo deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills — can translate design intent into practical build solutions.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with Aluvision, Octanorm, or modular exhibition systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical layouts, lighting integration, or AV setups.
  • Understanding of Australian safety and building standards.
  • A passion for sustainable design and efficient production.

Why Join Expo Centric

You'll join a high-performing, award-winning team that's redefining how exhibitions are built. You'll work on national and international projects, collaborate with top designers, and see your designs come to life in some of the biggest expos across Australia.

We work fast, aim high, and back our people. If you love the idea of seeing your drawings transform into real-world experiences that wow audiences — we'd love to hear from you.
