Air Cross Solutions is looking for a driven HVAC Estimator to join our team. You'll price and win mechanical projects across commercial, industrial, retail/shopping centres and airports, then support a clean handover into delivery.

What you'll do
  • Prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for HVAC construction projects (mechanical services, ductwork, mechanical pipework, ventilation, carpark/stair pressurisation, BMS interfaces).
  • Demonstrate proficiency with industry standard estimating software and tools for accurate project costing.
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda and tender documentation; clarify scope, inclusions/exclusions and interfaces.
  • Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and build ups (labour, materials, plant, prelims, subcontract).
  • Source and evaluate supplier/subcontractor quotes; negotiate pricing and terms to meet margin targets.
  • Identify/assess risks, value-engineering options and alternative proposals; contribute to bid strategy.
  • Prepare tender submissions (methodology, program assumptions, qualifications) and present to leadership.
  • Attend site inspections and pre-tender meetings; issue RFIs to resolve ambiguities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and codes (AS/NZS 1668.1/2, AS 4254, AS/NZS 3666, NCC Part J, E2, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Project Managers/Engineers for seamless handover on award, including budgets and subcontractor let-ups.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools, rates libraries and process governance (ISO 9001).
What you'll bring
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Building/Construction Management or equivalent trade background (highly regarded).
  • 3+ years HVAC/mechanical estimating experience in commercial/industrial or complex fit-out environments.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of HVAC estimating experience is required for this position.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, materials and installation practices (duct, mech pipe, plant selections).
  • Sharp analytical skills with high attention to detail; proficient with MS Excel and estimating take-off tools.
  • Clear written/verbal communication and confident stakeholder engagement/negotiation.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast pace while being a collaborative team player.
