Technical Director, Planning and Approvals (NSW) $200K + package + bonus

Are you a seasoned planning and approvals specialist with a passion for major projects and a knack for leadership? We are recruiting on behalf of a highly respected consultancy that is seeking a
Technical Director
to join their team in New South Wales based in either
Newcastle or Sydney
. This is a rare opportunity to step into a leadership position in a dynamic consultancy, focused on shaping the future of renewables, infrastructure, and transport in NSW.

The Role

As the Technical Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and mentoring a high-performing team of
    10 planning and approvals specialists
    .
  • Securing
    environmental approvals
    for major-scale projects.
  • Driving the
    growth of the team
    and developing key client relationships.
  • Providing expert advice on New South Wales planning legislation and major projects, including
    State Significant Developments
    .

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Substantial experience
    in planning and approvals, with a deep understanding of NSW planning legislation.
  • Proven experience in
    impact assessment
    and managing major projects.
  • A
    Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner (REAP)
    accreditation is a must-have qualification.
  • A passion for working on complex, major-scale projects and a desire to lead and mentor a team.

This role is for someone who thrives on a challenge and wants to make a tangible impact. The position would suit a leader who enjoys the strategic side of planning and approvals but prefers an environmental-first rather than an engineering-led company.
