About the Role

Somerville Advisory Group is seeking a driven and enthusiastic Graduate Accountant to join our dynamic team in West Perth, WA. This is a full-time opportunity for a dedicated professional to kickstart their career in tax and business accounting.

As a Graduate Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting our clients with a broad range of taxation, compliance, and advisory services, while developing your professional and technical expertise through hands-on experience and mentoring.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Preparing and lodging income tax returns, business activity statements (BAS/IAS), and other compliance documents for individuals and businesses
  • Assisting with financial statement preparation, bookkeeping, and reconciliations
  • Supporting clients with tax planning and advisory services to help minimise their tax obligations
  • Conducting research and analysis to stay current with tax and compliance changes
  • Collaborating with senior team members to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients
  • Developing your technical and client service skills through structured mentoring and ongoing training
Minimum Requirements

Before applying, applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a closely related discipline
  • Academic performance in the degree is not subject to minimum GPA requirements
  • Australian working rights, or a valid visa with the ability to obtain permanent residency
  • Certification or demonstrated proficiency in cloud accounting software, such as Xero (Advisor Certified) or MYOB (Partner/Advisor Certified) — or willingness to obtain certification within the first 3 months
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
  • A basic understanding of Australian taxation and accounting principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively

Prior experience in a public practice accounting firm (internship, cadetship, or part-time role) will be highly regarded but not essential.
