About the role
This exciting opportunity within the Greater Whitsunday Council of Mayors in Mackay, Queensland, is for a Regional Waste Coordinator. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for coordinating and implementing waste management initiatives across the region, with the goal of improving sustainability and environmental outcomes.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and implement regional waste management strategies and action plans
 - Coordinate waste reduction, recycling, and resource recovery programs across the region
 - Liaise with local councils, businesses, and community groups to promote best waste management practices
 - Monitor and report on the performance of regional waste management programs
 - Identify and secure funding opportunities to support regional waste initiatives
 - Provide advice and guidance to local councils on waste management policies and regulations
 - Engage with the community to raise awareness and encourage participation in waste reduction efforts
 
What we're looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field
 - Extensive experience in waste management, preferably in a local government or regional setting
 - Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
 - Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
 - Demonstrated success in securing funding and managing budgets for sustainability projects
 - Thorough understanding of waste management policies, regulations, and best practices
 - Commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and circular economy principles
