Senior Policy Adviser, Economic Policy

The Role

As a Senior Policy Adviser, Economic Policy, you will play an important role in helping the department to grow Victoria's economy, create jobs and support the development of Victoria's industries, regions and suburbs.

You will have proven success in advising on complex and cross-cutting economic issues; be comfortable working on new and diverse issues with uncertain information; strong analytical and conceptual skills; and strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

This position is well suited to highly motivated professionals with a strong track record in economics, public policy or strategy.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Lead and contribute to the delivery of high quality and engaging analysis of developments in the Victorian, national and global economies.
  • Provide high quality analysis and advice on strategic issues affecting the Victorian economy, from a whole-of-economy, sectoral, regional and workforce perspective.
  • Contribute to the development of policy frameworks, strategies, and reports on economic and public policy issues.
  • Lead and contribute to coordination activities on behalf of DJSIR to provide a single department view on whole of government priorities.
  • Initiate and maintain effective working relationships with senior government staff and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the broader activities of EPPS group, as requested by the Director.

The Team

The position of Senior Policy Adviser, Economic Policy will work within Economic Policy Unit, which sits within Economic Policy, Programs and Services (EPPS) Group.

EPPS Group supports delivery of sustainable economic development and employment growth for Victoria. The Group supports DJSIR's delivery of strategic priorities through the entirety of the policy and project lifecycle, by providing leadership and expertise in policy design, research, analysis and advice, project management, delivery and evaluation. The priorities of the Small Business and Employment portfolio – to enable Victorian small businesses to thrive, to enable Victorians to achieve sustainable employment and economic inclusion, and to increase employment and prosperity opportunities for Aboriginal Victorians in a self-determined way – are delivered by the Group.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Well-developed public policy skills and experience, and a good understanding of the Victorian economy and Government's economic priorities.
  • Proven record in contributing to a range of economic and public sector policies, strategies and projects.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, including an ability to reason through complex problems, identify and analyse complex information and effectively communicate to stakeholders.
  • Strong written, visual and verbal communication skills including through the delivery of reports, presentations, submissions and briefings.
  • Demonstrated track record in working effectively in project-based teams and supporting a positive and productive culture in the workplace.
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills to build trust, collaborate and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders.
