DIVISION SUMMARY
The
Prevention Division
aims to prevent cancer for all Victorians. This is done through community interventions, mass media, advocacy, training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to reduce cancer risk. We prioritise health inequalities, especially in relation to Aboriginal people, and in culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.
UNIT SUMMARY
The Quit program is a joint initiative of Cancer Council Victoria, the Department of Health and VicHealth. Quit's purpose is to end the devasting impact of tobacco and vapes on Victorian people and communities. The Quit program has been provided with funding from the Commonwealth Government to create a National Quit Cessation Platform, a national digital hub to support people who smoke and/or vape to quit.
About your opportunity
We are seeking a Health Writer to join the Prevention Division. Reporting to the Communications & Engagement Manager, your role is to:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of Quit's subject matter and make practical recommendations on content, mediums and messaging for various platforms and audiences.
- Take responsibility for creating and updating written content for the National Cessation Platform ), ensuring it remains optimised and relevant.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure all content is factually accurate, aligned with the brand's tone, and tailored to meet the needs of diverse user groups, including individuals seeking counselling, their families, and the broader community.
- Produce clear, engaging, referenced and accurate communications that position as Australia's leading national cessation resource.
All about you
We are looking for someone with:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Psychology, Health Promotion, Communications, Journalism, or a related field and/or substantial experience in a related field.
- Ability to interpret research, see opportunities and engage multiple stakeholders to develop compelling and timely content.
- Ability to adapt writing style and tone to suit a variety of content formats, from educational articles to personal stories and FAQs.
- Experience writing for digital platforms, particularly in the health sector, is highly desirable.
