ASC is Australia's submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy's Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats' service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia's history.
Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia's national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Hygiene Manager to build and lead our Occupational Hygiene Team and drive the development and implementation of a comprehensive Occupational Hygiene Program. This critical role ensures compliance with WHS legislation and international standards while embedding continuous improvement across the organisation. You will work closely with the Head of WHSE Corporate and key stakeholders to align hygiene strategies with ASC's overarching objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of ASC's Occupational Hygiene Program, including long-term strategy and emerging risk management.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Occupational Hygiene Team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Ensure program compliance with WHS legislation, Australian and international standards, and ASC's strategic objectives.
- Partner with internal stakeholders, including WHS Corporate and Learning & Development teams, to deliver robust training and awareness programs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through effective change management and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor, measure, and report on governance and compliance performance to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Represent ASC in external engagements, including regulatory bodies, to maintain strong compliance and industry alignment.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications, Certification in Occupational Hygiene (essential), and WHS management (desirable).
- 8–10 years' experience in occupational hygiene, including at least 3 years in a high-risk industry.
- Proven expertise in developing and implementing Occupational Hygiene Programs aligned with WHS legislation and international standards.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and fostering a positive, high-performance culture.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all organisational levels and manage complex change initiatives.
- Skilled in data analysis, reporting, and use of digital platforms to support program delivery.
- High integrity, resilience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance up to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
Benefits
- Unique and challenging work with a deeper purpose.
- Flexibility over how, when and where you work for the best work/life balance.
- Up to 10 days additional leave every year so you can rest and recharge.
- Generous parental leave so you can give your family the focus it deserves.
- Subsidised childcare to ease the financial pressure on your family.
- Health and wellbeing initiatives so you can perform at your best at work.
- Professional development opportunities to advance your career.
- A diverse and supportive environment where you can thrive.
- Discounts and exclusive offers from leading Australian brands to help you save.
- Relocation support for you and your family, whether you're from interstate or overseas.
