About the Role

Infrastructure NSW is seeking a strategic and experienced legal professional to join our Corporate Services division as Director, Legal.

This pivotal role provides expert legal advice on complex construction and development matters, ensuring legal integrity across high-profile projects and precincts such as Powerhouse Ultimo, Penrith Stadium and Central Barangaroo.

Additionally, the role is responsible for managing responses to information access requests including GIPA applications. The role also contributes to policy development and compliance programs that mitigate legal risk and support organisational governance.

Working closely with the General Counsel and senior stakeholders, you will influence whole-of-government initiatives, resolve complex disputes, and ensure legal advice aligns with strategic objectives.

Some of the key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Lead the development and delivery of specialist legal construction and development advice to internal clients on complex legal matters, scrutinise decisions and recommend appropriate courses of action to deliver robust legal decisions that support transaction strategy and planning.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a robust contract management administration system including working with the vendor and procurement team, determining business needs and implementing a contract management framework and appropriate policies.
  • Undertake forward planning for program transactions and collaborate with precinct teams to ensure legal input is effectively planned, robust and high quality and complies with organisational, government and legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate with inter-agency teams for whole-of-government projects, provide expert specialist advice and guidance and contribute as a project team member to coordinate and influence project outcomes that incorporate expert legal advice and align to organisational objectives and parameters.
  • Manage key disputes, litigation and complex probity questions and provide advice on complex issues to ensure the programs maintains a legally sound position.

About You

  • You are a seasoned legal professional with significant experience in property, development or construction law.
  • You hold a Bachelor of Law and are admitted to practice in NSW.
  • You bring a collaborative mindset, strategic thinking, and a strong understanding of government and legislative frameworks. Your ability to influence, negotiate and communicate effectively will be key to your success in this role.
  • You thrive in complex environments, balancing competing priorities with sound judgement and resilience. You are passionate about contributing to infrastructure that shapes the future of NSW.
