About the Opportunity

The exclusive role of Group Internal Audit Manager will be a key strategic advisor to the Audit Committee (Board) and ExCo. As an executive leader the GIA will play a critical part of ASC's Senior Leadership Team, responsible for shaping the internal audit strategy aligned with enterprise risk and transformation.

They will also be responsible for preparing and submitting audit observations/recommendations and agreed action plans to the Audit Committee of the Board and be a sitting member of BASC.

Importantly, the Group Internal Audit Manager derives the authority to perform the role, from the ASC Board through the Audit Committee, and the Group Internal Audit Manager reports to the Audit Committee Chair and the Managing Director and CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the Internal Audit Plan scope of works
  • In-camera communications and input as part of the Business Assurance and Security Committee
  • Provide quality engagements and business improvement recommendations
  • Liaise with all internal stakeholders, including Snr. & Exec. Board Members
  • Competency in risk management mediation and delivery on auditing directives
  • Internal Audit emerging ethical conformance as per the Auditor's Code of Ethics
  • Apply forensic auditing techniques in fraud prevention, deterrence and investigation, and be competent to report results of investigations to all levels at ASC, including the Managing Director, CEO and Audit committee

About you

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or a related Management field.
  • Master's degree is preferred within a related Business field or Defence specialisation.
  • Membership eligibility to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is essential.
  • NV1 Clearance, or eligibility for such.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience in internal auditing, including a minimum of 10 years in a direct or related leadership role.
  • Internal Audit Expertise: Must have a solid background in internal auditing, including experience conducting audits, assessing risks, evaluating controls, and implementing audit methodologies.
  • Defence Industry Knowledge: Defence industry-specific experience or a deep understanding of the ASC's industry will be highly valuable.

REQUIRED BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Highly driven and motivated individual, able to deliver directives to all levels of the business.
  • Leadership and Management
    : Must have experience in leadership positions, such as leading an internal audit function or leading audit teams. Must have a proven ability to provide strategic direction, manage resources, and effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels, including to the Board and the Australian National Audit Office.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    Experience in working closely with senior management, Board members, and Audit Committees is essential. Must have proven abilities in building strong relationships, influencing decision-making, and effectively communicating audit findings and recommendations to key stakeholders and the Board.
  • Compliance and Governance:
    In-depth knowledge of Defence and Finance regulatory requirements, corporate governance principles, and best practices related to internal controls, risk management, and compliance. (Desired)
  • Change Management and Continuous Improvement
    : Experience in driving change, implementing process improvements, and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the internal audit function is essential. This includes the ability to leverage ASC's IFS & CAMMS compliance technology and data analytics to enhance audit processes and focus on areas of highest business risk.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 Level, or eligibility for a clearance to that standard.

Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
