The role
As Audit Manager, you will provide high-level technical expertise and plays a key role in delivering Climate Friendly's carbon farming projects through the audit and crediting process.
Working closely with our Section Head – Internal Assurance, this role is responsible for coordinating and delivering audit packs, offsets reports, and Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) applications in compliance with ERF methodologies, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards.
The role leads the progression of projects through the audit lifecycle and supports continuous improvement of internal assurance practices, tools, and templates. It also involves maintaining effective working relationships with third-party auditors, internal stakeholders, and the Clean Energy Regulator, and contributing to the accuracy and efficiency of the audit and crediting process across a diverse project portfolio.
The role also contributes to the transition of projects to the new Methodologies as required and plays a key part in ensuring that Climate Friendly meets its regulatory and contractual obligations during the audit cycle.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting Section Head Internal Assurance to ensure Climate Friendly complies with audit timelines for meeting obligations under delivery contracts, Service Agreements, and legislative requirements
- Leading the progression of assigned projects through the audit cycle in accordance with internal SOPs, ERF methodologies, and relevant regulatory frameworks
- Preparing offsets reports and audit documentation including developing responses to corrective action requests
- Conducting detailed quality assurance checks of audit packs and ACCU application forms to ensure accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness
- Liaising with third-party auditors once an audit has commenced, maintaining a positive relation with auditors throughout the process, and ensuring the timely delivery of services
- Collaborating with other teams, Project Managers and Proponents to resolve audit-related technical or regulatory queries and ensure audit documentation is consistent, accurate, and defensible.
- Submitting ACCU applications to the Clean Energy Regulator and ensuring accurate, complete, and timely submissions aligned with project milestones.
- Assisting with internal audit readiness checks and supporting the transition of projects to new methodologies, including the Integrated Farm Method.
- Maintaining a complete and auditable record of audit documentation in internal systems, including CRM, audit trackers, and document storage platforms. Providing technical guidance and knowledge sharing with peers and stakeholders across the business to strengthen audit capability.
- Supporting cross-functional audit delivery during peak periods by adapting to shifting priorities and providing backup where needed.
- Delivering audit debrief presentations to relevant staff and contributing to continuous improvement of audit practices Analysing audit outcomes and trends, identifying recurring issues or areas of concern, and making recommendations to improve overall audit performance and reduce rework.
- Providing technical input to improve audit readiness tools and templates, identifying opportunities to streamline reporting processes and reduce audit cycle time.
- Monitoring updates to audit-related regulatory requirements and CER guidance, ensuring internal documentation and workflows reflect current best practices.
- Contributing to internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives by documenting lessons learned from audits and supporting the development of guidance materials for new team members or cross-functional colleagues.
About you
- Familiarity with project auditing
- Skilled in report writing, MS Excel, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as QGIS
- Familiarity with the Emissions Reduction Fund and abatement modelling, such as the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM)
- Very high attention to detail, or experience in quality assurance/quality control checks and processes
- Ability to work on multiple, complex projects at the same time, which may all be at different stages of the audit cycle
- Ability to perform well under tight, sometimes self-imposed deadlines
- Background in forestry or other environmental fields
- Knowledge about the agricultural sector
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work unsupervised, yet as part of a small team
