Primary objective

Improve the health of individuals and groups resident in the remote communities and outstations of the Top End of the

Northern Territory and adjacent areas by participating in the provision of comprehensive primary health care

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide primary care medical services to designated remote communities through regular scheduled visits and ongoing

telephone and administrative support.

  1. Provide public health services to remote communities using a community development model to enhance health

outcomes, improve services and infrastructure.

  1. Participate in education and training within the PPHC team which may also include other Primary Health Care (PHC)

providers including Primary Health Care nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP).

  1. Participate in the collection and maintenance of computerised client health information including Medicare billing.

  2. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the

work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

  1. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.

2. Drivers licence or the ability to obtain.

3. The equivalent of three years full time service in medical practice.

4. Accepted onto the Australian General Practice Training program (RACGP or ACRRM).

5. Ability to travel by light aircraft or road in remote localities

6. Preparedness to undertake cross cultural training and mentorship and an ability to interact effectively with people from

diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Ability to stay overnight in communities
