Primary objective
Provide clinical services to patients of Top End Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (TEMHAODS) at Training Registrar
level and participate fully in the psychiatric training program of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists
(RANZCP).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Admit, manage, and discharge patients from the service under supervision of the supervising consultant.
2. Fulfil statutory requirements under the Northern Territory Mental Health and Related Services Act (the Act) and ensure that
Northern Territory (NT) legislation is accurately interpreted and utilised.
Participate in after-hours on call roster and attend daytime crisis calls in the designated area of clinical responsibility.
Provide supervision and training to junior medical staff and other clinical staff as appropriate.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical records and provide reports under supervision as appropriate.
Participate fully in the RANZCP Psychiatric Training Program and in research, educational and professional development.
Practice in accord with TEMHAODS philosophies, policies, procedures, and standards; including establishing and maintaining
appropriate client records and complying with management information systems.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality.
- Follow RANZCP Fellowship Regulations as set out in complementary policies and procedures.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for appropriate registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and registration as a trainee
with RANZCP.
Hold a current NT drivers' licence or the ability to obtain one.
An understanding of the role and function of inpatient and community based multi-disciplinary mental health services.
Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Proven skills in the effective use of information technology records for the effective delivery of client services.
Ability to obtain NT criminal history and working with children's clearances.
Desirable
1. Awareness and understanding of the national standards for mental health services and issues.
Experience in mental health and in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health.
Demonstrated experience in teaching junior medical staff and other professionals.
In addition to the above criteria, favourable consideration will be given to those applicants who can demonstrate experience of
working with disadvantaged groups, experience of working in rural areas and have skills in other languages.
