Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity for a Rail Planner to join our team

This role will be responsible for the efficient planning, coordination, and execution of rail operations to ensure the timely and cost-effective movement of containers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Checking bookings against stock levels in 1-stop Modal system
  • Use 1-Stop system to check vessel schedules 
  • Liaising with internal and external customers to ensure requirements are met
  • Assist with answering customer queries
  • Resolve planning conflicts, delays or shortages 
  • Coordinate daily plans with the transfer team
  • Work closely with the AQIS Coordinator on all containers requiring biosecurity action
  • Align with Rail Coordinator team to ensure efficient discharge and reload of containers to incoming and outgoing trains
  • Effectively communicate with other teams in the terminal to ensure that customer requests are prioritised appropriately to meet business needs and stakeholder expectations
  • Complete load and unload plans for the yard
  • Ensure operations comply with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and other regularity requirements. 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Minimum 2 years previous experience in rail or container yard operations

  • Previous experience in a container park and experience using Modal is advantageous

  • High level organisational skills

  • Proven customer service skills and excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure 

  • Flexible with time and ability to deal with conflicting priorities

  • Attention to detail 

  • Excel skills
